CHICAGO (AP) - Oprah Winfrey dedicará un programa a investigar los abusos que se cometen en los criaderos de perros en memoria de su mascota Sophie, una cocker spaniel que falleció el mes pasado de insuficiencia renal.

"Sophie me regaló 13 años de cariño incondicional. Fue un amor verdadero en mi vida'', dice Winfrey en su programa que será transmitido el viernes, según informó Harpo Productions en un avance el martes.

El programa muestra a la corresponsal especial Lisa Ling en un reportaje investigador sobre los criaderos de perros, que la reportera califica de "horribles'' e "inquietanttes''.

Winfrey dice que el programa debe ser visto "por cualquier persona que quiera a un perro, que haya querido a un perro, o simplemente a quien le preocupe que se respete los derechos de ellos a recibir un tratamiento humano''.

Aunque Sophie no nació en un criadero de perros, y los tres que Winfrey tiene actualmente fueron adoptados de criadores de pura raza, la conductora afirma que en el futuro adoptará animales de un albergue.

"Nunca jamás volveré a adoptar a ninguna mascota sin recurrir a un albergue de animales. He cambiado después de ver este programa'', agregó.
