La demanda civil afirma que la madre de Oprah, Vernita Lee, residente en Milwaukee le debe a tienda de lujo Valentina cerca de 156.000 dólares por compras e intereses desde el 1 de julio y no ha realizado los pagos mínimos mensuales de 2.000 dólares.

El abogado de la tienda, Joseph Niebler Sr., dijo que su cliente trató de resolver el asunto con Lee antes de presentar la demanda en la Corte del Condado de Waukesha.

Según la demanda, Lee le dijo a los oficiales de la tienda que ella no les debía nada. Al ser contactada por teléfono, Lee declinó comentar sobre el asunto.

Uno de los dueños de Valentina, Tony Chirchirillo, dijo que una cuenta de 150.000 dólares no es inusual para un cliente que tiene tantas actividades sociales como la madre de Oprah.

La corte pautó una sesión de mediación para el 16 de septiembre.
