NUEVA YORK (AP) - Brooke White se despidió llorando de "American Idol" la noche del miércoles, dejando sólo a cuatro luchando por el título de ídolo y un contrato discográfico.

La cantante de 24 años, original de Mesa, Arizona, fue eliminada de la competencia de Fox al día siguiente de interpretar los temas "I'm a Believer" y "I Am ... I Said" de Neil Diamond, quien fungió esta semana como tutor de los concursantes.

El temido juez Simon Cowell calificó su primera actuación como "una pesadilla", pero alabó su segunda interpretación.

"Esta es la Brooke que nos gusta: sentada detrás del piano, cantando una muy buena canción", le dijo. "No fue increíble, pero sí estuvo un millón de veces mejor que la primera canción. Bien hecho".

La otrora niñera se secó las lágrimas antes de cantar por última vez en el show y dijo a sus seguidores: "Sólo quiero darles las gracias".

Los demás aspirantes, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro y Syesha Mercado, la rodearon en el escenario. Cook, uno de los favoritos, le dio unas palmaditas de apoyo en la espalda.

El programa del miércoles contó con las actuaciones de Diamond y la inglesa Natasha Bedingfield.
