Heath Ledger fue reconocido póstumamente con el premio al mejor
actor de reparto por su diabólica interpretación del Guasón (Joker)
en la cinta de Batman "The Dark Night" (El caballero de la
noche).
"Slumdog Millionaire", con un elenco mayormente desconocido y
una historia filmada en las calles de Mumbai, se impuso ante otros
filmes nominados que contaban con astros como Brad Pitt, Winslet y
Leonardo DiCaprio. La película ganó los honores de mejor cinta;
mejor director, Danny Boyle; mejor música original; y mejor guión,
Simon Beaufoy.
Winslet ganó los Globos de Oro a la mejor actriz de reparto por "The Reader" (la española Penélope Cruz competía en dicha categoría por "Vicky Cristina Barcelona") y mejor actriz en una película de drama por "Revolutionary Road".
En la primera Winslet interpreta a una ex guardia en un campo de concentración nazi que se involucra románticamente con un adolescente. En la segunda, a una esposa frustrada con su vida "perfecta" en un suburbio estadounidense.

Colin Farrell fue premiado en el rubro de comedia o musical, en el que competía el español Javier Bardem ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona), por "In Bruges". Y Sally Hawkins hizo lo propio en la categoría femenina por "Happy-Go-Lucky".
En el apartado de televisión Tina Fey arrasó. La actriz y guionista ganó el Globo a la mejor actriz por su papel en el programa que ella misma creó, "30 Rock", que a su vez obtuvo el reconocimiento a la mejor serie comedia. Alec Baldwin, también de "30 Rock", se llevó el premio al mejor actor de comedia.

la Asociación de Prensa Extranjera en Hollywood, el latino Jorge
Cámara, quien se abstuvo de pronunciar un largo discurso para
evitar "esas aburridas declaraciones de presidentes de
asociaciones".
"Wall-E" se llevó el honor a la mejor cinta animada mientras
que la cinta israelí "Waltz With Bashir" obtuvo el galardón a la
mejor película extranjera.
El premio Cecil B. Demille a los logros de una vida fue para el cineasta Steven Spielberg, quien recordó la primera vez que fue al cine a los 6 años a ver una película, "The Greatest Show On Earth", de DeMille.
"Fue la mejor cosa que me ha ocurrido", dijo el realizador, resaltando que cree que su destino como cineasta se selló ese día.
