LONDRES (AP) - Javier Bardem ganó el trofeo al mejor actor de reparto, por su papel de un asesino despiadado en la película "No Country for Old Men", durante la entrega de los premios de la Academia Británica de Cine, realizada el domingo.

El premio al actor español no fue el único que cosechó "No Country for Old Men". Joel y Ethan Coen se llevaron el galardón al mejor director, y Roger Deakins fue el ganador del premio a la mejor fotografía.

En tanto, Daniel Day Lewis se afianzó como el favorito para el Oscar al mejor actor, al llevarse el premio de la Academia Británica.

Day Lewis, quien ha ganado el Oscar por "My Left Foot", podría conseguirlo de nuevo en dos semanas, por interpretar a un petrolero megalómano en "There Will Be Blood".

"Este ha sido un año colosal, y estoy muy orgulloso de que me hayan elegido", dijo el actor.

La mayor sorpresa fue el premio a la mejor actriz. La francesa Marion Cotillard, quien hizo el papel de Edith Piaf en la cinta francesa "La Vie en Rose", superó a Julie Christie, considerada la favorita de la noche.

    El premio a la mejor película fue para "Atonement", así como el trofeo para el mejor diseño de producción. Fueron los únicos reconocimientos cosechados por este filme, que tenía 14 nominaciones.

    Tilda Swinton fue elegida la mejor actriz de reparto, por la película "Michael Clayton".

    La escritora debutante Diablo Cody se llevó el galardón al mejor guión original, por "Juno". El premio al mejor guión adaptado fue para Ronald Harwood, por "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".

    Los premios británicos son considerados un barómetro importante de lo que podría ocurrir en el Oscar.

    La ceremonia de este año cobró una mayor prominencia, ante la huelga de los guionistas de Hollywood, que frustró la ceremonia de los Globos de Oro, el mes pasado, y puso en peligro la entrega del Oscar, que ahora parece viable, gracias a un acuerdo anunciado el domingo entre el sindicato y los estudios cinematográficos.
