La actuación de Ledger en la película Batman: El caballero de la noche es tan extraordinaria que el próximo 22 de enero, cuando se cumple el primer año de su muerte, podría convertirse en el séptimo actor en la historia de los premios de la Academia que recibe una nominación póstuma.

"Pienso que Heath creó un villano icónico que se mantendrá vigente por años, y por supuesto, me encantaría verlo ganar un premio", dijo Christian Bale, quien repite su papel de superhéroe de Batman: Inicia. "Pero tú sabes, para mí, uno puede atestiguar su talento, celebrar su talento en esta película. Lo demás ya sería extra".

Las cintas de superhéroes por lo general no son material de Oscar. Pero la interpretación de Ledger va tanto más allá, que podría llegar a ser el segundo artista que recibe el máximo honor de Hollywood tras ser postulado póstumamente.

"Podría ser el primero desde Peter Finch. Podría ganar, dijo Gary Oldman, quien hace el papel del noble policía Jim Gordon en el filme, a estrenarse el 18 de julio.

Finch es el único que ha ganado un Oscar al Mejor Actor tras su deceso, por su trabajo en Un mundo implacable (Network), de 1976, dos meses después de fallecido.

Sin haber tenido antes nada tan maniaco como el Guasón entre sus créditos, la selección de Ledger para el papel fue una sorpresa para sus seguidores, algunos de los cuales pensaban que era demasiado joven o que no podría competir con la interpretación que ofreció Nicholson en Batman(1989). Nicholson fue nominado a un Globo de Oro por su trabajo, pero no a un Oscar.

Mientras el rodaje progresaba el año pasado, se comenzó a escuchar del personaje febrilmente psicótico que Ledger estaba creando.

Con una campaña publicitaria fuertemente enfocada en el Guasón, los trailers que siguieron de la cinta mostraron al villano con un maquillaje de payaso descuidado y siniestro que parecía haber sido aplicado en medio de un ciclón. El breve adelanto reveló a un personaje cuyo sentido del humor no puede ocultar su alma maligna.

Y la actuación de Ledger incluso está superando las expectativas de los fanáticos más fervientes de Batman.

"Estuvo mejor de lo que pensé", dijo Bill Ramey, fundador del sitio web de fans Batman-on-Film.com, después de acudir a una proyección del filme.

"Creo que legítimamente se merece una postulación al Oscar, no por compasión después de su muerte, sino porque simplemente estuvo fantástico en la película... Está a la altura de Hannibal Lecter", personaje de El silencio de los inocentes por el que Anthony Hopkins ganó la codiciada estatuilla.
