Confieren a Sean Connery el título de Doctor Honoris Causa en Escocia

Londres, 21 Jun. (Notimex).- El actor Sean Connery, ganador de un Oscar, fue investido Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universidad Napier de Edimburgo, Escocia, en reconocimiento a su destacada carrera cinematográfica.

Engalanado con una toga roja, blanca y azul, el primer "Agente 007" del celuloide dijo en un breve discurso que la distinción no habría llegado a sus manos, "si no hubiera aprendido a leer y escribir a la edad de cinco años.

"Lo interesante de todo esto es que nunca me di cuenta de eso hasta que pasé de los 70 años. Poder leer y escribir ha sido clave en casi todo lo que he hecho en mi vida", afirmó quien en julio de 2000 fue nombrado caballero por la reina Isabell II.

Connery, de 78 años, recibió el título en una ceremonia a la que asistió acompañado de su esposa Micheline.

En este marco, la rectora de la Universidad Napier, Joan Stringer, dijo sobre el artista: "Es uno de los actores más icónicos y carismáticos de Escocia. Sigue siendo para muchos el único candidato al título de `El más Grande Escocés Vivo"".

Nacido en el barrio de Fountainbridge, en Edimburgo, el actor pasó de ser repartidor de leche a estrella mundial, gracias a la interpretación que hizo de "James Bond" en siete películas.

Con más de 60 largometrajes en su haber filmográfico, Sean Connery ganó un Oscar al Mejor Actor de Reparto por su papel del incorruptible policía "Jim Malone" en "Los intocables" (The untouchables, 1987)
