Reclama Gael García a líderes del G-8

LONDRES (AP) - Actores, directores de cine, poetas, escritores, periodistas y otras personalidades, entre los que figuran Kevin Spacey, Emma Thompson y Gael García Bernal, firmaron una carta en la que reclaman a los líderes del G-8 conseguir el dinero suficiente para evitar que más personas mueran de hambre.

La carta abierta fue enviada a través de la fundación ActionAid con motivo de la reunión de los líderes del G-8 esta semana en Italia y toma como punto de referencia a una trabajadora de Vietnam de 40 años, llamada Nguyen Thi Lanh, quien a consecuencia de la crisis económica mundial solo come una vez al día, si es que quiere mantener a su hijo en la escuela.

"En nombre de Lanh y de miles de millones de otras personas que irán esta noche a la cama hambrientos, pedimos demandamos que ustedes enfrenten esta crisis global tan moral y valientemente como Lanh aborda la suya personal. Eso quiere decir cumplir su promesa de miles de millones de libras (esterlinas) para ayudar a los países pobres afectados por la recesión", señala la misiva.

El grupo también pide crear un "nuevo y más justo sistema financiero".

"La crisis económica global fue creada por los países ricos. No hay justificación para permitirles hundir a las personas de los países pobres aún más en la pobreza y agravar el hambre. Ustedes tienen la oportunidad de hacer del mundo un lugar más justo. Por favor tómenla", señalaron.

El grupo de 60 personas incluye además a los actores Alan Rickman, Dustin Hoffman, Roger Moore, Viggo Mortensen y James Mcavoy, músicos como Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour, escritores como Irvine Welsh y filósofos como Noam Chomsky.

El director en Inglaterra de ActionAid, Richard Miller, dijo en comunicado de prensa que "es momento de ajustar la brújula moral del mundo" y que los líderes del G-8 asignen los 22.000 millones de dólares que prometieron para el 2012 y "de esa forma salvar las 25.000 personas que mueren de hambre todos los días" a nivel global.

La cumbre arranca el miércoles y se extiende hasta el viernes. El G-8 lo integran Estados Unidos, Gran Bretaña, Francia, Alemania, Italia, Japón, Canadá y Rusia. También asistirán los mandatarios de economías emergentes del llamado Grupo de los Cinco (G5), entre ellas México y Brasil.

Mientras, ya hay decenas de arrestados por protestas cerca de la sede de la reunión.
