Programas no televisan video polémico en fiesta

NUEVA YORK (AP) - "Entertainment Tonight" dijo que no transmitirá un video que adquirió y que muestra al extinto Heath Ledger en una fiesta de Hollywood donde aparentemente había drogas.

Un programa similar de noticias de la farándula, "The Insider", televisó el miércoles un "adelanto" de la cinta en el que un hombre no identificado parecía inhalar cocaína y acotó que Ledger no salía consumiendo drogas en el video.

"Por respeto a la familia de Heath Ledger, 'Entertainment Tonight' y 'The Insider' han decidido no transmitir el video de Heath Ledger que ha estado circulando en el mundo de los medios", se informó el jueves en un comunicado publicado en sus sitios de Internet.

"The Insider" difundió un "adelanto" bastante extenso del video, en el Ledger salía en la entrada de una habitación del hotel Chateau Marmont donde transcurría la fiesta.

La cinta muestra a un hombre, con el rostro borroso, que parece inhalar cocaína de una mesa. Ledger dijo que iba a "recibir un serio (pitido) de mi novia" por haber asistido.

También lo muestra enrollando un cigarrillo y se le escucha decir que "solía fumar cinco porros al día por 20 años".

El programa también cita a Drew Pinsky, astro de la serie de VH1 "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew", decir que había visto el video y que era "desgarrador".

Además del cigarrillo, Ledger aparece sorbiendo un trago de cerveza. Varios medios han citado a distintas personas diciendo que el actor consumía drogas.

La comunidad de Hollywood ejerció presión sobre ambos programas de televisión para que no difundieran el material, que la firma de relaciones públicas del actor calificó de "explotación vergonzosa de la clase más baja".

En un comunicado la firma, ID PR, dijo que "Entertainment Tonight" adquirió el video por "una gran suma de dinero con la esperanza de fomentar un cuento lujurioso y abusivo sobre Heath".

ID PR también representa al coprotagonista de "Secreto en la montaña" Jake Gyllenhaal y a estrellas como Robin Williams y Natalie Portman. Para los programas de farándula de este corte, el acceso a las celebridades es oxígeno.
