En sendas entrevistas telefónicas con The Associated Press, el productor de Fawcett y su médico dijeron que Fawcett está hospitalizada en Los Angeles, recuperándose de complicaciones a causa de una intervención médica en Alemania, y "no está al borde de la muerte" tal como dejó entrever el productor.

"Fue sometida a un intervención menor. Ese procedimiento provocó una pequeña hemorragia en un músculo en el área abdominal", que provocó una acumulación de sangre que le presionaba y le provocaba dolor, dijo su médico oncólogo de Los Angeles, Dr. Lawrence Piro. Se trató de "un procedimiento sencillo" y de rutina, aunque Fawcett también ha recibido tratamiento experimental en Alemania, agregó.

"Se está recuperando y pronto será dada de alta", indicó su productor Craig Nevius. "Se siente muy bien. Su lucha continúa... No se va a ir a ningún sitio por el momento", agregó.

Sin embargo, la confirmación de que el cáncer se ha extendido a otro zona distante son malas noticias. La actriz de 62 años, famosa por su papel en la serie de televisión "Los ángeles de Charlie", fue diagnosticada con cáncer de ano en el 2006, e inicialmente se le trató con quimioterapia y radiación en el centro UCLA, y no se el operó tal como se había informado, dijo Nevius.

Los médicos habían declarado el cáncer en remisión en febrero del 2007, pero recayó tres meses después según indicaron pruebas tomográficas. Sin embargo, Nevius dijo que "no sólo hubo recaída sino también metástasis a su hígado".

El más reciente tratamiento que tuvo en Alemania trató de detener el avance del cáncer hasta ese órgano, agregó.

Nevius no dio detalles en qué lugar de Alemania recibió el tratamiento, sólo que se trataba de una clínica afiliada con algunos hospitales. Tampoco dio detalles sobre su tratamiento aquí, pero desechó las versiones de que recibía tratamientos de célula madre.

El productor dijo que Fawcett ha trabajado en un documental por varios años, titulado "A Wing and a Prayer" ("Un guiño y una oración"), en coproducción con él y otras personas. Será trasmitido por NBC dentro de poco, indicó.

Nevius dijo que Farrah "mantiene el buen ánimo con su habitual sentido del humor",

Nevius, que dijo que hablaba en nombre de Fawcett, emitió una declaración en respuesta a las versiones publicadas inicialmente en el sitio cibernético RadarOnline.com., de que Fawcett estaba hospitalizada desde el jueves.

Nevius fue contactado por The Associated Press el sábado pero se negó a hacer declaraciones, y no devolvió los mensajes que le dejaron el domingo.
